Our evaluation process at The FOCUS Center is thorough. It is done by our highly qualified team of therapists. With our holistic approach, we look at the child as a “whole” and we assess what is hampering his/her progress. We establish which therapy method will be most effective in facilitating the child’s development, growth, and how he/she can best reach his/her full potential.
After the initial phone call to The FOCUS Center, we interview the parents and decide what the primary concern is for the child.
We have developed a comprehensive Intake Form for the parents and teacher for gathering details on every aspect of the child’s life. It covers all areas of concern, including emotional, behavioral, learning, language, speech, occupational, physical, play development and more.
An evaluation takes 3-4 sessions where the therapist gets to know the child in depth and learns about the family dynamics.
There are two methods of therapy, depending on the child’s evaluation:
Method 1: If the child has concerns primarily and specifically in one area, for example: communication, sensory integration, physical, emotional or behavioral, that specific therapist will contact the parents to evaluate the child, and continue with one-on-one therapy with the child.
Method 2: If the child has concerns in more than one area, for example: sensory integration and communication, or sensory integration and emotional, or behavioral and language, we provide a team intake approach, with more that one therapist involved in the evaluation process, which will be followed by recommendation for further intervention and integrated therapy sessions by the therapists involved.
